Product details
With over 300,000 rock paintings in a relatively small geographical area, Val Camonica is one of the richest regions in the world for rock art, having been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. The rock paintings from Val Camonica consist of engraved and mostly carved representations. The oldest rock paintings in Val Camonica likely date back to the late Paleolithic period; however, the majority of the images come from the Neolithic, particularly from the Bronze and Iron Ages, with some from subsequent periods. There are numerous depictions of animals, humans, and scenes of various themes with narrative characteristics, including house forms and objects such as daggers and looms.
