Abstract: "The Everyone-Knows-Everyone Law" - This was the title of an article published in August 2008 on spiegel-online, which dealt with the 'small-world' phenomenon. One might think this is an exciting topic in the age of Web 2.0. However, tracing the origin of this term leads us back to the 1960s and the psychologist Stanley Milgram. He was the one who posited at that time that, on average, every person knows any other person through six degrees of separation. This paper aims to present Milgram's study (Chapter I) and further discuss the associated hypothetical calculations.
