Abstract: The following paper deals with the consequences of parental divorce on the psychological development of children and how children cope with adolescence as a crisis. The choice of topic is based on the seminar attended in the summer semester of 2013 on "Adolescence and Young Adulthood." During the seminar, various aspects of coping with adolescence were explored. Since the topic of divorce had not yet been addressed, this paper will focus on it in more detail. Furthermore, the issue of divorce and its effects on the psychological development of children seems to be gaining increasing importance in contemporary society. After all, in Austria, about one in three marriages ends in divorce.
