Abstract: Few therapeutic approaches have been as controversially discussed in recent years and have polarized opinions among professionals and laypeople alike as family constellations according to Bert Hellinger. Hardly any intervention method has gained such significant popularity in such a short time and has been criticized so vehemently. One reason for the intense criticism seems to lie in Hellinger's claim to a phenomenological approach that underlies family constellations. This means working based on the perceptions of seminar participants and trusting in effects that are not solely perceivable by the intellect. However, family constellations are often also associated with the systemic approach.
