Thesis from 2010 in the field of Psychology - Forensic Psychology, Criminal Justice, Grade: 1.1, Hessian University of Police and Administration; formerly VFH Wiesbaden, Language: German.

Abstract: The paper begins with a description of the robbery at the Svenska Kreditbanken branch in 1973 in the Swedish capital, Stockholm. This robbery is considered the birth of the Stockholm Syndrome and serves as an introduction to this thesis. It discusses the emergence of the syndrome, its prerequisites, explanatory approaches, and a critical examination of possible methodologies. Since the syndrome most commonly occurs in hostage situations, I will briefly explain hostage-taking and then provide a short historical overview of the three phases of a hostage situation. This represents an important point for me to foster understanding.
