Abstract: In his work "Die Aufhebung der Ökonomie" (The Suspension of the Economy), published in 1967, the French writer, scientist, sociologist, anthropologist, and philosopher Georges Bataille constituted a general economy of waste and destruction, which is fundamentally opposed to the classical economic utility principle. It is thus a radical attack on the idol of usefulness of our time, the limits of which Bataille wants to show. By examining early cultures and comparing them with ours, Bataille sees the entire modern world as something like a fatal blindness in connection with the unchallenged supremacy of the useful.
