Abstract: The stage theories of Oser/Gmünder and Fowler regarding the development of religious judgment, which are based on Piaget's stage model of cognitive development, are of interest to all religious educators. Knowledge of these theories is particularly useful when their statements are not considered separately but are brought into agreement with each other. The paper analyzes which stages can be expected at what age among learners and what didactic implications this knowledge should have for educators. It reflects on how knowledge of the stages can be profitably integrated into lesson planning and evaluation.
