Abstract: In order to participate in social life, reading ability is an important prerequisite. Without it, many areas of daily life are inaccessible. Particularly from this perspective, it was all the more alarming to see the results presented to the public by the PISA study. The findings regarding students' reading motivation indicated that 42% of participating German 15-year-olds never read for pleasure, which included not only reading books but also newspapers and magazines. However, since my topic is "Promoting Reading Motivation in Primary School," one might wonder why findings from the PISA study are mentioned that do not pertain to primary school performance.
