The increasing multimorbidity of older patients complicates optimal decision-making and thus the process of clinical reasoning. Numerous factors must be recognized and weighed against each other. One aspect is thinking. While it is clear what is meant by "thinking" in everyday life, there are nuances that facilitate access to better patient care. Edward de Bono developed the method of the 6 Thinking Hats, which will be presented after an introduction to different thinking strategies and their application in nursing and therapy. Following an introduction to types of thinking, this introductory presentation will apply the thinking strategies and the 6 Thinking Hats of Edward de Bono to the nursing and therapy process.
