Abstract: In the past, separate transmission media were always used for both voice and data communication, necessitating an expensive setup of separate infrastructures. The convergence of both communication forms aims to address this issue. With the Internet Protocol (IP), which allows various types of information to be transported across different network topologies, a convergence of voice and data is made possible. In 1996, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) paved the way for a multitude of communication applications for IP with the H.323 standard. Meanwhile, H.323 has established itself alongside the session.
