Product details

A very personal book about a convinced racial biologist, an aloof grandfather, and a contradictory man. For a long time, journalist Eva Dahlgren knew her grandfather K. V. Ossian Dahlgren only as a botany lecturer at the University of Uppsala, who was engaged in plant breeding. However, as an adult woman, she had to discover that in the 1930s he was one of Sweden's leading racial biologists. He was convinced that the Nordic race should be preserved by producing large blonde children. In his own family, however, no one matched his racial ideal: his own wife was very short; together they had four children, none of whom were tall and blonde. Eva Dahlgren's own memories repeatedly take her back to her grandfather's study, where the grandchildren had to line up once a year in front of the desk to have their skulls measured.
