Several decades have passed since the last major comprehensive works on agricultural history. Since then, the field of research has expanded and diversified significantly in both content and methods. This work, authored by relevant experts, recounts agricultural history from the Middle Ages to the modern era in three volumes. It addresses classic economic historical aspects such as productivity increases and offers new perspectives, for example, through diverse interconnections between rural and urban economies. Cultural historical focal points are repeatedly emphasized, particularly highlighting the factors of education and knowledge. Environmental historical topics such as climate change and social historical issues are traced up to the present day. Overall, the authors not only outline the major historical processes but also highlight regional differentiations.
