Product details

Gustav Ammann is considered one of the most significant landscape architects of the 20th century in Switzerland. As a recognized expert both domestically and internationally, Ammann was not only a constant source of inspiration in discussions and a pioneer of new ideas, but he was also known as a designer of extraordinary parks and gardens, with the aim of creating green counter-worlds or, in the words of Gustav Ammann, "a beautiful, blissful island in the machinery of everyday life." The first monograph on Gustav Ammann traces the development of his work from the consistently architecturally shaped early gardens to the "naturally" designed residential gardens of the 1930s, which were intended to enable a carefree life in nature, and finally to the integration of garden, settlement, and landscape in the 1940s and 1950s. The uniqueness of Ammann's work becomes tangible through selected examples.
