In May 2011, the completion of the two-year construction work on the Winterthur Museum and Library building was celebrated. Built between 1913 and 1915 according to the plans of Robert Rittmeyer and Walter Furrer, this neoclassical structure houses both the Kunstmuseum and the Naturmuseum Winterthur, as well as parts of the Winterthur libraries, just as it did then. The publication documents in words and images the extensive renewal and expansion of this unique cultural building, carried out by the partnership of Silvio Schmed and Arthur Rüegg. Respectful renovation measures and careful interventions in the historical fabric allowed for an exemplary adaptation to current needs. Individual contributions are dedicated to the development of the building complex, the usage demands of the multi-purpose house, and the construction and heritage preservation activities undertaken.
