Product details

"Guardianship of the Islamic Jurists" is a significant non-fiction book that deals with the theory of the guardianship role of Islamic jurists in Shia Islam. This theory, which emerged after the time of Occultation, states that a faqih (Islamic jurist) or several fuqaha (jurists) take on the responsibility of caring for those in need of assistance. Within this theory, there are different views on the scope of the guardianship role. One interpretation, known as the limited guardianship role, is restricted to non-contentious matters such as religious endowments and judicial affairs. In contrast, the view of the absolute guardianship role asserts that the responsibility encompasses all matters for which the Prophet of Islam and the Shia Imams are responsible, including governance. These ideas were articulated by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in the 1970s in a series of lectures and today form the basis of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
