An elementary and original representation of the reality and truth of Jesus. Who is Christ, where does he meet us, and what does he mean for the Church, for the individual, and for the world? Christology provides new answers to these fundamental questions in order to account for a characteristic way of life: being a Christian. Heinrich Assel initially develops, starting from the symbolism of Jesus' cross, how the crucified and the risen Jesus are remembered as the same. He then tests this theory of messianic memory against central themes of Jesus' life and the interpretation of the Gospels. This rekindles the often interrupted dialogue between exegesis and dogmatics. In a third step, Assel reformulates classical concepts of incarnation in relation to the image of Jesus and his person in the text of the Gospel. Ultimately, it becomes clear: The doctrine of reconciliation is the key.
