Since 2015, the immigration of refugees and asylum seekers has become a dominant public and political issue in Germany. For most asylum seekers arriving in Germany, initial reception facilities are the primary point of contact. The biggest challenges in these first weeks are the difficult communication conditions and the lack of knowledge about the procedures ahead of them. Quick access to the German language and contact with people who can provide guidance and answer questions are fundamental prerequisites for successfully navigating everyday life in this situation. From November 2015 to July 2017, the model project "Guidance Courses for Asylum Seekers in Initial Reception Facilities" was carried out in Saxony on behalf of the Saxon State Minister for Equality and Integration, Petra Köpping, by the Saxon Adult Education Association.
