The Ringstrasse project by Gustav Klimt consists of the paintings for the Burgtheater, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the early ceiling paintings of the university, and the decoration of the music salon for Nikolaus Dumba. It refers to three of the most significant buildings on the Vienna Ringstrasse and the palace of an outstanding art lover. In addition, numerous drawings, designs, and even some cartons for the ceiling paintings of the Burgtheater, as well as photos and contemporary publications with illustrations, have been preserved, allowing for a comprehensive presentation of Gustav Klimt's Ringstrasse project in a single book for the first time. The book was created following the commission to provide a scholarly treatment of the works of Gustav Klimt and the two other members of the painter's company (Ernst Klimt and Franz Matsch) at the Burgtheater.
