From printing instrument to plastic work. The print from the carved woodblock plays a key role in the work of the artist Gustav Kluge (1947; co-founder of the producer gallery in Hamburg). Of the originally about 190 woodblocks, hardly any classical editions were produced; rather, the artist typically only pulled a few unique variants. His approximately 900 woodprints show from the beginning a tendency to transcend the classical boundaries of the medium and to connect with painterly elements. After the turn of the millennium, the prints also take on relief-like features through the cutting out and collaging of shapes. This conscious expansion of the possibilities of wood printing is reflected in Kluge's handling of the woodblocks, which are often made from found objects and assembled woods. Over the years, a development is evident in them.
