Exemplarily, a spectacular photographic discovery from 2003 unfolds the dark panorama of the NSDAP's rise to power and the subsequent disintegration of a small-town "community" from 1933 to 1949. The radicalization of Germany took place in the 1920s and 1930s far from the urban centers. The power base of the NSDAP was the provinces. One such provincial place is Gunzenhausen in Middle Franconia, which at the time was a center of dark nationalist sentiment. As early as 1934, a pogrom occurred here, in which large parts of the population participated, resulting in the deaths of two Jewish men. In 2003, a spectacular find was made in Gunzenhausen: during an estate liquidation, numerous photographs from the local photography studio Biella were discovered. The approximately 2,500 photographs provide a shocking visual account of the violent seizure of power.
