He also wrote theoretical and art historical essays, establishing himself as a skilled art writer. Following an introductory section that covers materials and tools as well as the theory of watercolor painting, particularly color theory and harmony, Jaennicke provides an extensive practical guide that introduces beginners to the fundamentals of watercolor painting, from brush handling and color mixing to coloring, perspective, and contrast.
