In the context of the economization and modernization of youth services, there arises a necessity to ensure the professional competencies of those involved. It is important not only to adapt to changing conditions but also to actively shape them. This study illustrates the consequences deemed essential by long-standing professionals from a large youth services provider, the structural conditions that are conducive to the further development of these competencies, the existing need for qualification, the significance of collegial infrastructures for the quality of youth services, and the tensions that exist between professional autonomy and economic demands.
