In his 1960 seminal work "Truth and Method," Gadamer engages with the hermeneutic tradition that dates back to antiquity, primarily establishing a philosophical hermeneutics in the wake of Hegel and Heidegger. The book brought its author international acclaim, and philosophical hermeneutics has become one of the key concepts in contemporary philosophy. To this day, "Truth and Method" serves as the starting point for a philosophical clarification of understanding and its manifestations in art, history, and language, as addressed by Gadamer. The present volume reconstructs and discusses Gadamer's line of thought in the form of a cooperative commentary, following the structure of the work, while also highlighting the perspectives of a philosophy that does not close itself off to its own hermeneutic character.
