Hans Hofmann
German, 2016Product details
From 1904 to 1914, the painter Hans Hofmann (1880-1966), whose friendships with Picasso, Braque, Matisse, the Fauves, and Robert and Sonia Delaunay connect him, becomes a witness to the new art in the European cultural metropolis of Paris, which he carries with him. In 1915, he founded an art school in Munich, where he became a mediator of French modernism and an internationally renowned art teacher. In 1932, he emigrated to the USA, where he opened the Hans Hofmann School of Fine Arts in New York two years later. He influenced a new generation of American artists, including figures like Jackson Pollock, Helen Frankenthaler, and Barnett Newman.
