The following work stems from the desire to preserve knowledge of the places of worship established by our ancestors in Switzerland (churches, chapels, monasteries), many of which have been completely or partially destroyed over time. Initially, the author's intention was to identify the patron saints of the places of worship that were established before the Reformation, in order to draw various conclusions primarily about their origins. To compare and validate the results obtained, it then became necessary to determine the age of these places of worship based on historical documents, and subsequently to attempt to resolve the question regarding which of them existed in the earliest times and which were later established through separations.
