A pharmaceutical technique in the sense of the present work did not yet exist. While the theoretical part of the science enjoyed extensive treatment not only by pharmacists and pharmacy educators but also by the first living chemists, the purely practical part had been treated very neglectfully. Therefore, it is of utmost interest for the pharmacist to be fully aware of everything that has been established through experience before setting up a business, a location, or constructing a device. However, these experiences were not collected anywhere, they were not made accessible to others through drawings, and thus, in most cases, the pharmacist had no choice but to consult a locksmith and carpenter or to obtain the equipment from a laboratory supply store.
