The art of anesthesia, as it was previously expressed when discussing its role in medicine, has rapidly grown to such a height since its emergence in medicine over three-quarters of a century ago that researchers in this field can rightly look back with joy on years of fruitful work. In order to provide students and doctors the opportunity to recall and reference the scientific data they have heard in lectures about anesthesia, which may have slipped their minds, we have written this book with the intention of summarizing current views on the topic of anesthesia and compiling all scientific knowledge available.
