The following will present the most important methods of experimental psychology. Although the summary of specific psychological methods explained in the introduction is initially grounded in the particular task of this work within the framework of the handbook, its content may indeed interest a wider audience, as the experimental analysis of mental processes has long outgrown its original significance as an auxiliary science of sensory physiology to become an independent discipline, the problems of which are essentially of a humanities nature. This primarily underlies the close connection between its various problem groups, the preservation of which also forms a fruitful methodological principle and will gradually allow the precision achieved in the more elementary investigations of this field to be transferred to the analysis of increasingly complex processes.
