Product details

For many decades, Prague Castle had not seen such splendid festivities as during the winter of 1619 to 1620. Elector Frederick V of the Palatinate, who had been chosen as their king by the Bohemian estates, resided there with his wife Elisabeth, the daughter of James I of England, and the proverbial splendor of the English court life seemed to surpass that of the Bohemian. With solemn words, court preacher Abraham Scultetus blessed the glorious future that awaited the House of the Palatinate in Bohemia, and when, during the Christmas week, on the evening of December 27, 1619, a son was born to the royal couple, Frederick proudly named him Rupprecht, the imperial name of his lineage. Scultetus saw the psalm's word fulfilled, that the Lord helps his anointed and grants him hearing in his holy heaven. The historian Karl Hauck states.
