This encyclopedia of the birds of Bavaria encompasses the posthumously published life work of the passionate naturalist and ornithologist Jäckel, who had already published numerous essays on individual bird species during his lifetime. The diet, breeding, hunting, and migratory behavior of the birds are detailed, but the focus of the presentation is on their local occurrence. The author describes exactly where and under what circumstances the birds were sighted. This is a carefully edited reprint of the original edition from 1891.
