Simone Weil's notebooks, her journals, are the core of her writings and one of the great intellectual and human documents of this century. The resistant thinking of this great philosopher, who refused to be co-opted by any ideological direction, political group, or party, is reflected in these never-ending processes of reflection. The form of ongoing engagement with others (Plato, Descartes, Spinoza, Shakespeare, Racine, Goethe, or with the Indian sacred texts, the Bible, and the mystic John of the Cross) was a prerequisite for Simone Weil, under which her thoughts could develop; the dialogue, rather than a closed philosophical system, corresponded to her inherent openness, which deserves great attention.
