Baudelaire, Charles
Charles Baudelaire was born in Paris in 1821 and died there in 1867. He had an unhappy childhood due to the early death of his father and his mother's remarriage. Barely of age, he squandered his father's fortune as an urban dandy and was constantly in financial trouble thereafter. From 1845, he worked as an art critic with a forward-looking sensibility: he translated Poe and De Quincey and introduced the music of Richard Wagner to France.
Kemp, Friedhelm
Friedhelm Kemp was born in 1914 in Cologne and grew up in Aachen and Frankfurt. He studied Romance languages and German studies in Frankfurt and Munich. Since 1945, he lived as a freelance writer and publishing editor in Munich. Most recently, he was the head of the Literary Department of Bayerischer Rundfunk. He died in 2011 in Munich.
