In the beginning, they were always three and grew up like siblings: Anna, whose mother died at birth, Claire, who is taken in by Anna's father since she too has lost her mother, and Cooper, who is all alone - they are all orphans. But then Anna falls in love with Cooper, and when her father catches them, he beats the foster son half to death. At that point, their paths diverge. Cooper becomes a professional poker player, Anna moves to the south of France, and only Claire stays in the area.
