Product details
The ideal complement to the textbook classic Fischer/Nolle, Electric Machines. Heating and cooling are central themes in the design of electric machines. In particular, the permissible maximum temperature in devices is limited by the insulating materials used. While higher-quality materials or lower material utilization can reduce losses and thus temperatures, this also increases the cost of the devices. For economic reasons, the permissible heating is therefore usually maximized. Consequently, loss and heat calculations are critically important in design. Particularly crucial are the losses distributed locally within the devices and the effective heat transfers between the machine components and the liquid or gaseous coolants. The calculation methods presented allow for the avoidance of lengthy testing series in the testing field, saving time and costs. For practical application, the book includes extensive tables with the thermal properties of important construction and material types, trend statements for interpolation or extrapolation of essential machine characteristics formulated as growth laws, and simple formulaic relationships for the most decisive heat transfers in many specific situations, which are also useful in FEM simulations, along with corresponding examples based on differently detailed thermal circuit diagrams. This compact textbook fills an existing literature gap and additionally provides valuable examples for the straightforward determination of the thermal situation in all important electric machines.
