We were accustomed to Europe and North America dominating the world. In times of globalization, other great powers are now asserting political and economic claims and questioning the Western worldview. Progress, secularization, liberalism: why should these principles of our intellectual history apply to the entire globe? Stefan Weidner is a proponent of the Enlightenment. Precisely for this reason, he advocates taking worldviews from Arabia, Africa, or China seriously. The West must not believe that the entire world will eventually adopt its ideas. We need a cosmopolitan mindset that overcomes the notion of cultural superiority.
