Few technologies have had such a significant impact on our society in the last 100 years as aviation. The convergence of various advancements in engine technology, materials and structural technologies, as well as progress in the understanding of fluid dynamics phenomena, has led to rapid development in aviation technology since the beginning of the 20th century. The design, development, production, and operation of aircraft are technical masterpieces that require constant perfection. They place high demands on the skills of the technicians and engineers involved. To meet the need for a comprehensive representation of aircraft technology, this handbook on aircraft technology has been created, pursuing for the first time in the German-speaking world the approach of conveying fundamental knowledge of the most important aspects of aviation technology.
