Product details
Many years before the Iron Curtain fell, Karl Schlögel explored Moscow. Through long walks, he learned to understand the peculiarities of the neighborhoods and to read the facades of the buildings. In 1984, he presented a Moscow that the West had not yet known: a stone landscape where individual layers of time could be discerned. Nearly 20 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the city has transformed once again, with investor architecture replacing parts of the city that Schlögel walked through. The new edition of his first major city book recalls this lost Moscow and describes in a new essay the upheaval of recent decades that has also changed the atmosphere in the Russian metropolis.
