Digital prints and videos, DVDs and websites: Today, when visiting a museum of contemporary art, one finds oneself surrounded by copied images. The technical reproducibility has reached a level of availability and perfection that compels a new understanding of the relationship between the museum space and its mundane surroundings. Therefore, Boris Groys proposes a topology of art: a theory in which the spatial relationship between the artwork and the viewer becomes the central distinction between the aesthetic and everyday perception of images.
