This work investigated methods and applications of autonomous haptic exploration of unknown objects using a humanoid robotic hand. An exploration procedure was developed that enables a robot to capture haptic object features. Key applications examined included the planning of potential grips based on exploration data and a suitable object representation for classification and recognition.
