Product details

The curator Harald Szeemann (1933-2005) was a key figure in the art scene of the 20th century. Anarchic, visionary, dreamlike, and boundary-breaking, he led both institutions like the Kunsthalle Bern (1961-1969) and independent exhibitions, reinventing the role of the curator. Szeemann curated more than 150 exhibitions, including documenta 5 (1972), the Venice Biennale (1999, 2001), and significant cultural historical exhibitions such as "Bachelor Machines" (1975), "Monte Verità - Mountain of Truth" (1978), and "The Inclination Towards the Total Artwork" (1983). The shift initiated by Szeemann towards the curator as a defining driver of discourse continues to shape the contemporary art landscape today. After Harald Szeemann's death in 2005, his estate included a gigantic personal archive filled with documents, flashes of inspiration, and unrealities.
