Product details

From the iconic tormented artist Charles Bukowski, "Hollywood" is the fictionalization of his experience adapting his novel "Barfly" into a film of the same name. Henry Chinaski, Bukowski's alter ego, is pushed to translate a semi-autobiographical book into a screenplay for John Pinchot. Reluctantly, he agrees and is thrown into the other world called Hollywood, populated by a parade of eccentric and crazy characters: producers, artists, actors, actresses, film managers, and journalists. In this world, the art of books and films is overshadowed by the dollar, and Chinaski struggles to find his footing in the web of deceptions that make up filmmaking. "Hollywood" is the dirty old man Bukowski in his clearest form. It overflows with curses, sex, and alcohol. And through it all, Bukowski finds glimpses of truth about human existence.
