Over the centuries, the ocean has occasionally saved young women from drowning. To repay their debt, these young women must serve as sirens for 100 years, remaining young and beautiful while using their deadly voices to lure strangers to watery graves. To keep their true nature a secret, sirens must never speak to humans and must be careful not to linger too long in one place. However, once their century of service is over, each siren gets the chance to start anew – the chance to live the mortal life that was almost stolen from them. Kahlen became a siren after her family perished decades ago in a terrible shipwreck.
