The dictionary, which was previously published in two volumes by Langenscheidt, offers approximately 70,000 entries in Latin transcription for the Sanskrit-German language direction. In the reverse language direction, it contains 26,000 entries. The selection of entries has been made to enable users to read the most important works from various literary genres and historical periods spanning three millennia of Sanskrit literature: Vedic Samhitas, Brahmanas, Upanishads, and Sutras, the great epics and Puranas, art epics, poetry, and art novels of classical Sanskrit literature, fable and fairy tale literature, dramas, Buddhist writings, historiography, as well as important philosophical texts. A clear article structure ensures the easy finding of the appropriate Sanskrit equivalent, and modern terms illustrate the formation of neologisms. Furthermore, this dictionary provides a balanced consideration of Vedic, epic, and classical Sanskrit. Since the Sanskrit is presented in scientific transcription, the dictionary can also be used by those generally interested in linguistics.
