The 1960s were already considered a special decade in the history of socialist Yugoslavia by contemporaries. For various reasons, it has been and continues to be characterized as a time of repositioning, whether as a repositioning with an open outcome or as a repositioning towards state decay. In retrospect, however, these years are often referred to as a golden age. The anthology edited by Hannes Grandits and Holm Sundhaussen sheds light on Yugoslavia in the 1960s from different perspectives. Analyses from the fields of politics and economics reflect crucial societal, intellectual, and artistic currents, as well as developmental dynamics in the area of confessional life, all while never losing sight of the omnipresent communist rule and the socialist system.
