The overall structure of the work has essentially remained unchanged compared to previous editions. However, the individual lessons have been largely redesigned in the 4th edition, with some cases featuring more modern texts. This aims to make the book easier to use for those interested in the active use of the language. At the same time, it can also serve as a foundation for language research and comparisons. In 19 lessons, the book first introduces colloquial language and then written language, using newspaper articles and letters as examples. In the new edition, the lesson texts are presented first in Sinhalese script, then in transliteration, followed by translation and vocabulary. Each chapter also includes a grammatical section and explanations for the individual sentences.
