The goal of the 'Uralic Etymological Dictionary' is to critically evaluate and summarize the Uralic, Finnic-Ugric, Finnic-Permic, Finnic-Volgaic, and Ugric layers of the Uralic vocabulary. In addition to inherited words, it also addresses loanwords that were adopted during the Uralic, Finnic-Permic, Finnic-Volgaic, and Ugric periods. The dictionary not only includes Uralic etymologies but also those belonging to the other listed layers, taking into account uncertain or disputed etymologies.
Volume 2 deals with the Finnic-Permic and Finnic-Volgaic layers.
