When fifteen-year-old Mayssam can't sleep one night, she hears her father making a promise to her mother: "We are not leaving here. Never!" They want to stay - despite the war, despite the fear. But when the family is threatened by ISIS fighters, they have no choice: they must leave Syria. Mayssam sets off with her father, brothers, and cousin. But even before they reach the border, they are separated. The two girls are on their own from that point on. Determined, they embark on the arduous journey towards Europe. The author tells the story of a girl who never loses her courage and fights her way to a better life with poignant sensitivity.
