Emma really wants a dog, but her parents are against it. When Emma is allowed to walk Mrs. Moll's dog, she makes her an unusual proposal: she offers to share the dog. In the large-format illustrations by Jutta Timm, the children follow Emma on her daily dog walk, sharing her disappointment about not having a pet of her own, and cheering with her when she unexpectedly gets a "part-time dog." The story subtly provides an opportunity to teach children what to consider when having their own dog or how to approach a strange dog.
