The story of the book is told in German. While the inspector understands German, he speaks English himself. This allows for a moderate and very natural inclusion of English sentences and phrases in the German text. The crime plot and locations are designed in such a way that references to topics from elementary school English lessons arise quite naturally. "Kugelblitz's Cheat Sheet," which lists and translates the English passages at the end of each chapter, quickly clarifies any language issues.
