In search of exciting adventures, Knight Robert rides out into the world. Everything he experiences on his journey, he writes down in a small notebook that his sister gave him as a farewell gift. The knight tends to exaggerate wildly, turning even the smallest event into a bold heroic deed. By the time Robert finally reaches the castle, he has already gone through many perilous-sounding adventures, which the king learns about by chance through the notes in the notebook. Convinced of the courage and skill of this brave knight, he promptly gives him his beautiful daughter as a wife.
